St. Porphyrios and carnal perversions
St. Porphyrios is slandered by the neo-patristics for allowing complete freedom within marriage, that he was not interested in issues related to the marital bed, and that he was only talking about love. However, the truth is exactly the opposite. The saint was absolute and he never accepted any form of anomaly either within or outside marriage265. Also, he did not accept the autonomy of pleasure, contraception266 and artificial insemination267. We shall refer in more detail to the last two in subsequent chapters.
As it is clear from testimonies of his spiritual children, the Saint not only did he not tolerate any form of carnal sin, but he was completely opposed to any perversion, either before or during the marriage. Mr. Georgios Arvanites, a very close collaborator and a spiritual child of the Saint, in an interview about the Holy Elder and about relations within wedlock, states: “The Elder was not even remotely tolerant of any anomaly”268. On the contrary, as the Metropolitan Morfou Neofytos revealed in a recent radio show, he taught that the unnatural life of married couples essentially abolishes the concept of marriage. The couple is captured by the evil and the children become infected by the demonic germs of their parents. These manifest in the course of their lives as a sexual deviation from the natural path, that is, as homosexual rage, and as various perverse peculiarities. The children go wild and it’s the parents’ fault…269.
“St. Porphyrios”, as a contemporary Elder who knew him personally reveals, “because he had a lot of Christlike love and acted like a loving mum, post-patristics think that his theology is offered to reinforce 270 their own malicious agapologia. The Saint laughs at what they say...He even came to give codes of operation of a marital bed, so that images of God could come out relentlessly towards the likeness of God, and in order to reduce phenomena of homosexuality which hurt him deeply. So, how can they blaspheme him by saying that he was free in matters of the flesh? Lord, have mercy!”271
