Εὐχαριστοῦμε τόν π. Εὐάγγελο Πέπς, ἑλληνικῆς καταγωγῆς ἱερέα ἀπό τήν Ἀμερική, για τήν ἀποστολή αὐτοῦ τοῦ πολύγλωσσου ἄρθρου καί τίς μεταφράσεις πού ἐκπόνησε ὁ ἴδιος. Εὐχόμαστε σύντομα νά βγεῖ ἀπό τήν μεγάλη δοκιμασία, τήν ὁποία περνᾶ μαζί μέ τήν οἰκογένειά του, καί τόν παρακαλοῦμε νά εὔχεται καί γιά μᾶς.

Εύκολα ευκολότατα ο Χριστός μπορεί να μας δώσει ό,τι επιθυμούμε. Και κοιτάξτε το μυστικό. Το μυστικό είναι να μην το έχετε στο νου σας καθόλου να ζητήσετε το συγκεκριμένο πράγμα. Το μυστικό είναι

         να ζητάτε την ένωσή σας με τον Χριστό ανιδιοτελώς, χωρίς να λέτε, «δώσ’ μου τούτο, εκείνο …». Είναι αρκετό να λέμε, «Κύριε Ιησού ελέησόν με».

Δεν χρειάζεται ο Θεός ενημέρωση για τις διάφορες ανάγκες μας. Εκείνος τα γνωρίζει όλα ασυγκρίτως καλύτερα από μας και μας παρέχει την αγάπη Του. Το θέμα είναι ν’ ανταποκριθούμε σ’ αυτή την αγάπη με την προσευχή και την τήρηση των εντολών Του. Να ζητάμε να γίνει το θέλημα του Θεού· αυτό είναι το πιο συμφέρον το πιο ασφαλές για μας και για όσους προσευχόμαστε. Ο Χριστός θα μας τα δώσει όλα πλούσια. Όταν υπάρχει έστω και λίγος εγωισμός δεν γίνεται τίποτα. Όταν έχομε με τον Χριστό σχέση απολύτου εμπιστοσύνης, είμαστε ευτυχισμένοι, έχομε χαρά. Έχομε τη χαρά του Παραδείσου. Αυτό είναι το μυστικό. …

Έτσι ν’ αγωνίζεσθε στην πνευματική ζωή, απλά, απαλά, χωρίς βία. Το απλό και απαλό είναι ένας αγιότατος τρόπος της πνευματικής ζωής, αλλά δεν είναι δυνατό να το μάθεις έτσι απ’ έξω. Πρέπει μυστικά να μπει μέσα σου, ώστε η ψυχή σου να ενστερνίζεται τον τρόπο αυτόν με την χάρι του Θεού. … Όταν το θέλεις όταν εκβιάζεις το θείον δεν έρχεται. Θα έλθει «εν ημέρα ή ου προσδοκάς και εν ώρα ή ου γινώσκεις». Εδώ υπάρχει το μυστήριο· δεν μπορώ να σας το εξηγήσω.

·         Όταν χάνετε τη θεία χάρι να μην κάνετε τίποτα. Να συνεχίζετε τη ζωή σας και τον αγώνα σας απλά, απαλά, ώσπου χωρίς αγωνία να έλθει πάλι η αγάπη και ο έρωτας και η λαχτάρα στον Χριστό. Και τότε όλα πάνε καλά. Και τότε η χάρις σας γεμίζει και χαιρόσαστε. Ένα μυστικό είναι οι ακολουθίες.

·         Να επιδίδεσθε σε αυτές και η χάρις του Θεού μυστικά θα έλθει.

·         Να προσεύχεσθε στον Θεό με ανοικτά τα χέρια. Αυτό είναι το μυστικό των αγίων.

Μόλις άνοιγαν τα χέρια τους, τους επεσκέπτετο η θεία χάρις. Οι Πατέρες της Εκκλησίας χρησιμοποιούν ως πιο αποτελεσματική τη μονολόγιστη ευχή:

·         «Κύριε Ιησού Χριστέ ελέησόν με». Το κλειδί για την πνευματική ζωή είναι η ευχή.

Την ευχή δεν μπορεί κανείς να τη διδάξει, ούτε τα βιβλία, ούτε ο γέροντας, ούτε κανείς. Ο μόνος διδάσκαλος είναι η θεία χάρις. Αν σας πω ότι το μέλι είναι γλυκό είναι ρευστό είναι έτσι κι έτσι, δεν θα καταλάβετε, αν δεν το γευθείτε. Το ίδιο και στην προσευχή, αν σας πω, «είναι έτσι, νιώθεις έτσι» κ.λπ. δεν θα καταλάβετε, ούτε θα προευχηθείτε, «ει μη εν Αγίω Πνεύματι».

How and what to ask of our Christ - Elder Porphyrios

Easily, most easily Christ can give us what we want. And look at the secret. The secret is to not have in mind at all to ask the particular thing. The secret is to

    seek your union with Christ selflessly, without saying 'Give me this, that ... "It’s enough to say, "Lord Jesus, have mercy on me."

God does not need to be informed of our different needs. He knows all far better than we do and gives us His love. The issue is to meet this love with prayer and the fulfillment of His commands. To seek the will of God to be done, this is the most beneficial and safest way for those of us who pray. Christ will give us all richly. When there is even a bit of egotism nothing happens. When we have with Christ a relationship of absolute trust, we are fortunate, we have joy. We have the joy of Paradise. This is the secret. ...

In this way struggle in the spiritual life, simply, gently, without force. The simple and gentle is a most holy way of the spiritual life, but it is not possible to learn it from outside [one’s self]. It needs to mystically come inside so that your soul embraces this way with the grace of God. ...When you want it, when you compel the divine, it doesn’t come. It will come "in a day you do not expect, in an hour you do not know." Here is the mystery. I can’t explain it to you.

n      When you lose the divine grace, don’t do anything.  Keep your life and your struggle simply, gently, so that without anxiety, the love, eros and longing for Christ come back. And then, all goes well. And then your grace is filled and you are happy. One secret is the services.  Give yourself to them and the grace of God will mystically, come.

n  Pray to God with open arms. This is the secret of the saints.

Once they opened their arms, the divine grace visited them. The Fathers of the Church use as most effective the monologue prayer:

   «Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me." The key for the spiritual life is this prayer.

This prayer, no one can teach, neither the books, neither the elder, nor anyone. The only instructor is the divine grace. If I tell you that honey is sweet, is fluid, this and that, you will not understand if you do not taste. The same also, in prayer. If I tell you, "it’s like this, you feel like that," etc. you will not understand, nor pray "if not in the Holy Spirit."

Fácilmente, más fácilmente a Cristo puede darnos lo que queremos. Y mira el secreto. El secreto es no tener en cuenta en absoluto a pedir a la cosa en particular. El secreto está en

• buscar su unión con Cristo desinteresadamente, sin decir: "Dame esto, que ... "Es suficiente para decir:" Señor Jesús, ten misericordia de mí. "
