The Immediate natural and physical fruits of the Jesus Prayer

The Immediate natural and physical fruits of the Jesus Prayer

When the bitter cold pierces me, I start saying the Jesus Prayer and a sweet warmth spreads in my entire body. When hunger begins to overcome me, the Jesus Prayer makes me to forget my wish for food.

How to pray for the dead to benefit them? Elder Charalamby of Dionysius

One hundred Jesus prayers, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, rest the soul of your servant (name),” takes no more than fifteen minutes.

And during the first forty days after death, it would be possible to read even one thousand Jesus prayers
- this is not more than an hour and a half, which is not too much for the salvation of the soul of a loved one.
Elder Charalamby of Dionysius, a disciple of the elder Joseph Hesychast, spoke about the benefits of such work.
“A prayer on a komboskini for a brother, a relative can liberate his soul from hell — prayer has that power, ”he taught his students.
Elder Charalamby himself experienced this, praying with a komboskini for his grandfather.

Prayer and good state

efrem-katunak-in
Say the prayer, say the Jesus prayer and that’ll bring you into such a good state that however much you think about it, you can’t think about it.

St. Isaac the Syrian - On PRAYER

Prayer is undoubtably the most frequently discussed and most thoroughly developed theme in Saint Isaac….

'Prayer', according to Evagrius Pontlcus, 'is the converse of the mind with God'.1 For Isaac the Syrian, the converse of the mind with God is the highest and most important spiritual activity of a Christian, and cannot be compared with any other endeavor: 'Just as nothing resembles God, so there is no ministry or work which resembles converse with God in stillness.2 By prayer Isaac understands the whole range of activities which accompany the converse of the mind with God:
Every good care of the intellect directed toward God and every meditation upon spiritual things is delimited by prayer, is called by the name of prayer and under its name is comprehended; whether you speak of various readings, or the cries of a mouth glorifying God, or sorrowing reflection on the Lord, or making bows with the body, or the alleluias of psalmody, or all the other things from which the teaching of genuine prayer ensues.3

The Jesus Prayer

You have read about the Jesus Prayer, have you not? And you know what it is from practical experience. Only with the help of this prayer can the necessary order of the soul be firmly maintained; only through this prayer can we preserve our inner order undisturbed even when distracted by household cares. This prayer alone makes it possible to fulfill the injunction of the Fathers: the hands at work, the mind and heart with God. When this prayer becomes grafted in our heart, then there are no inner interruptions and it continues always in the same, evenly flowing way.
The path to achievement of a systematic interior order is very hard, but it is possible to preserve this (or a similar) state of mind during the various and inevitable duties you have to perform; and what makes it possible is the Jesus Prayer when it is grafted in the heart. How can it be so grafted?
